"Alice Bliss" is a story that will touch the hearts and souls of every American reader, every family that has ever lost someone to war. Matt Bliss wanted to live life taking care of his family but he felt he owed something to his country. This is a heartbreaking and moving portrayal of a family trapped in a war that's both far from home and also right in front of them. The family is faced with insecurity, fear, every imaginable nightmare, but ultimately hope. A character-driven story, Alice, a 15 year old girl is the major protagonist, her actions, reactions, and emotions about her father's deployment, with her mother, Angie, her younger sister, Ellie, Gram, Uncle Eddie, and best friend,… Read more

Turn of Mind by Alice LaPlante
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly done!, August 7, 2011
Turn of the Mind is nothing short of amazing. "Something has happened." The first line raises a question that makes it impossible not to have the reader's curiosity peeked and then on to first-person point of view of Dr. Jennifer White, herself, who is a 64 year old retired hand surgeon with a grave problem, actually two grave problems. This book is heartbreaking, haunting and chilling. Masterfully written with vivid prose, this storyline is painfully sad, but also… Read more
The Glass Rainbow: A Dave Robicheaux Novel (Dave R&hellip by James Lee Burke
5.0 out of 5 stars THE GLASS RAINBOW, September 17, 2010
THE GLASS RAINBOW is about not only evil but friendship, love of family, justice, and doing the right thing.

Seven young women and girl's bodies had been found raped and mutilated in ditches and swamps since 2005. The storyline takes the reader on a merciless, lump-in-the-throat ride throughout Louisiana's past and present....that keeps the reader in a constant state of foreboding. The kicker is that two recently murdered girls don't seem to fit the killer's pattern. This is a wonderful thriller! Buy it!
Other good ones are THE SURGEON and THE APPRENTICE.
