Quick Guide to Using Your Kindle Keyboard

After you register your Kindle Keyboard and set up your 1-Click payment method, you can start using your Kindle.

Note: Before using these instructions, make sure your device has the latest software update. For more information, go to Kindle Keyboard Software Update.

Go to the Home Screen

From the Home screen, you can view items in Your Kindle Library or view and open items that are on your Kindle Keyboard. You can also access settings to connect to Wi-Fi or receive items that have been delivered to your Kindle.

Press the Home button.

Connect to Wi-Fi

If your Kindle Keyboard does not include 3G or is not connected to a 3G network, connect to a Wi-Fi network to shop, buy, download, or sync content.

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu button, and then select Settings.
  2. Select view from Wi-Fi Settings, select a network, and then select Connect.

When you successfully connect to a Wi-Fi network, the top-right corner of the screen shows the Wi-Fi status and the signal strength of the network.

Navigate Using the 5-Way Controller

Use the 5-way controller to navigate Kindle menus.

Buy & Download

After you connect wirelessly and set up your 1-Click payment method, you can buy books, magazines, and newspapers from the Kindle Store and download them directly to your Kindle Keyboard.

  1. To go the Kindle Store, press the Menu button, and then select Shop in Kindle Store.
  2. Browse or search for items, and then select Buy to download the book or periodical.

    Tip: Select Try a Sample to download the beginning of the book for free.

After you purchase an item, it is stored in your Kindle Library in the Archived Items so you can download it to other Kindle devices or apps registered to the same account.

Read

After you download items to your Kindle Keyboard, you can start reading. You do not need to be connected wirelessly to read on your device.

  1. From Home, select a title to start reading. To download archived content from the Cloud, press the Menu button, and then select View Archived Items.
  2. To change pages, use the Next Page and Previous Page buttons.
    • To show the next page, press the Next Page button.
    • To show the previous page, press the Previous Page button.

Sync

After you connect wirelessly, you can sync your Kindle Keyboard to receive titles that were delivered to your device. You can also sync titles that you are reading on other Kindle devices or Kindle reading apps.

  1. From Home, press the Menu button, and then select Sync & Check for Items.

    Titles that were delivered to your Kindle and saved bookmarks and annotations should start downloading to your device.

  2. While reading, press the Menu button, and then select Sync to the Furthest Page Read.

    When you are finished, always return to the Home screen to avoid syncing errors.

Remove Books from Your Kindle

After you are finished reading a book on your Kindle Keyboard, you can remove it from your device.

To save your book's bookmarks, highlights, or notes, make sure Whispersync (the Kindle device synchronization feature) is on before you remove your Kindle book.

  1. From Home, select the item you want to remove.
  2. Press the left side of the 5-way controller to select Remove from device.
    • To cancel, press the up, down, or right side of the 5-way controller.

When you remove a book from your device, the book is saved in the Cloud and still accessible from Manage Your Kindle.

To permanently remove the book from your device and from your Kindle Library, go to Manage your Kindle Content.
