Managing Your Kindle Library & Account

You can manage your Kindle Library, order status, subscriptions, devices and reading apps, and the settings for your Kindle account through Manage Your Kindle (www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle).

Your Kindle Library

Your Kindle content is stored in your Kindle Library on Amazon.com. From here, you can send compatible content to any of your registered Kindle devices or Kindle reading applications.

Your Kindle Library contains all of your Kindle content, including books, newspapers, magazines, blogs, personal documents, Audible audiobooks, and active content. You can view titles by content type or use the search box to find specific titles.

Your Kindle Library

Click the Actions button on the right to:

  • Read a title on your computer using Kindle Cloud Reader
  • Send a title to a compatible registered Kindle device or reading app
  • Deliver past issues of subscription content to an eligible Kindle device or reading app, or cancel a subscription
  • Download a title or issue of a subscription to your computer and transfer it to your Kindle device via USB
  • Delete a title from your Kindle Library
  • Loan a title to another person
  • Return Public Library Books for Kindle to your local library
  • Return a title for a refund, if it's still within the return period

    Returning content

Books you purchase from the Kindle Store are eligible for return and refund if we receive your request within seven days of the date of purchase. Once a refund is issued, you will no longer have access to the book. To request a refund and return, click Actions next to the title you want to return, and select "Return for refund."

    Deleting content

Deleting a title from your Kindle Library permanently removes it from your Amazon account. You'll no longer have access to re-download the title unless you purchase it again. Existing copies of the deleted item already on your device will not be removed unless you delete them directly from the device.

You can keep titles in your Kindle Library but delete them from your device or reading app. This keeps a copy of the title if you want to download it to a device or reading app in the future. You can also keep an additional backup of your content by saving a copy to your computer or another storage device.

    Pending deliveries

Pending deliveries are titles that haven't yet been sent to a Kindle device or reading app, for example, titles that were purchased when the device was not connected wirelessly, pre-orders, orders that someone as sent you as a gift, and any orders with payment issues.

    Clear furthest page read

The furthest page read feature keeps track of how far you've read in your Kindle title across all devices registered to the same account. This allows you to seamlessly switch reading from one device to another and pick up where you left off in your content. You can clear your furthest page (or location) read on your Kindle title using the "Clear furthest page read" option in Manage Your Kindle. This can be helpful if you've skipped ahead in your content or are re-reading it and now are having trouble keeping all of your devices in sync to an earlier point.

To clear your furthest page read in Manage Your Kindle, click the Actions button next to the title and choose "Clear furthest page read" from the dropdown menu. The next time you open that title on a device, the page where it opens will become the new furthest page read that syncs across all your devices and apps.

    Manage Your Devices

Click on Manage Your Devices to view your registered Kindle devices and reading apps, your Send-to-Kindle E-mail Address, subscribe or unsubscribe from special offers, deregister a device, and more.

Register and deregister Kindle devices and apps

You'll register your Kindle from the device itself or by calling customer service. You'll enter the device serial number (found under Device Info on your Kindle's Settings screen).

You can't register a Kindle reading application from within Manage Your Devices, but you can click on the "Get free Kindle Reading Apps" link to download and register a new app.

Click on the Deregister link next to any of your registered Kindle devices or reading apps to deregister the device or application. Your device will no longer be associated with your Amazon.com account, you won't be able to access items stored in your Kindle Library, and you won't be able to access content previously downloaded through your Kindle reading applications.

Edit Kindle device and app names

You can change the name of your Kindle device or Kindle reading application by clicking "Edit" next to the device or app name.

    Whispersync options

Whispersync automatically synchronizes bookmarks, annotations, and the last page read among Kindle devices and Kindle reading applications registered to the same Amazon.com account. When you open the same Kindle book on another Kindle device or app, you will be given the choice to go to the furthest page read across all your devices if you are further ahead on another device. This ensures that you can easily pick up where you left off regardless of which device you are using.

    Whispersync is enabled by default.

To turn off Whispersync, click the Turn Off link under the Device Synchronization (Whispersync Settings) heading. You might turn off Whispersync if you and another person are reading the same book simultaneously on Kindle devices or apps registered to the same account.

    Subscription Settings

In Subscription Settings, you can view the subscription and billing details for the titles you're subscribed to. Click the Actions button next to the title to:

    • Deliver past issues of subscription content to an eligible Kindle device or reading app
    • Cancel a subscription
    • Download a title or issue of a subscription to your computer and transfer it to your Kindle via USB
    • Choose your privacy preferences
    • If you're an Amazon Prime member, view the status of your Kindle Owner's Lending Library limit

    Kindle Payment Settings

All Kindle transactions are completed with your 1-Click Payment Method. From here, you can edit your 1-Click Payment Method, and view and change the payment methods for your subscription content.

    Personal Document Settings

Kindle Personal Documents Service allows you to e-mail documents to your Kindle using your Send-to-Kindle e-mail address. Learn more about Kindle Personal Documents Service.

    Country Settings

In Country Settings, you can view your current country setting and change it if you're moving. When your country setting is correct, you'll see monetary values, Kindle content, and promotions relevant to your specific marketplace.

If you change your country of residence, you may be prompted to transfer your account to the Amazon web site for your new country or region. If so, click Update to transfer.
