Modern Rock Guitar Vol. 163 'Projectiles'
Modern Rock Guitar Vol. 163 'Projectiles'
Price: $14.99

5.0 out of 5 stars vol. 163, February 28, 2012
This is my 163rd album and I am very pleased with it because it really captures my style well. I also got to use some older gear that i had played with ten=-twenty years before so it really an exciting time to find that gear again including the Peavey tubefex guitar preamp and the zoom dsp among others. Also, the tracks compliment each other well and I really let the improvisation take over and let the tracks go where they wanted to. Some albums are really difficult to put together and finish which usually results in albums that are not well balanced. this one was almost effortless in the sense that it came together very well with no problems.it expands my style in to new areas as well.overall, this is an album that you can put on and listen from beginning to end and find it an enjoyable experience.

Electro-Harmonix 2880 Super Multi-track Looper

3.0 out of 5 stars hohum, December 27, 2011
I bought this looper with pedalboard and it has a lot fo pro's and con's.Frist off if your trying to ync it with midi forget it. It doesnt do the job.It is jsut poorly implemented. The sound quality is very good.even with the footswitch ,trying to use it live you will find that your stepping on so many footswitches is crazy. It would be good for an occosaional loop if playig at home and messing around

Modern Rock Guitar Vol. 161 'Mind Travels'
Modern Rock Guitar Vol. 161 'Mind Travels'
Price: $14.99

5.0 out of 5 stars My own review, December 27, 2011
I am the creator of this CD and am pleased to be able to review it.I really like this album because it is a departure from m other 160 albums. n what way? Well, first off, I used a variax guitar b line 6 which is an electric guitar which can emulate diffferent kinds of guitars from strats to les pauls, banos, dobros and Jumbo acoustics!! I recorded most of it using the jumbo acoustic sound and it was to be a fairly loight album as a result.Instead, it became a rather dakk album . The overall tone is that of pressure and dispair with repeating themes. It took a life of its own as it developed and created a very dark album without a lot of distorted guitar surprisingly.A well rounded album which truly conveys atmospheres and ceates moods which was the ulimate goal.

Modern Rock Guitar Vol.24 "Go for it"
Modern Rock Guitar Vol.24 "Go for it"
Price: $19.98

5.0 out of 5 stars a classic album, January 24, 2010
I am glad to be able to review my own album. This is oneof mybest albums out of the 143 I have created. The main reasons for this are that many of the tracks remind me of Tangerine dream (the German synth band that created many film soundtracks),except on guitar instead of synths. This was also the first album where I switched from drum machines to drum samples and this enhanced the quality of the tracks. You no longer wondered if those were real drums or drum machines. The drums truly sound realistic. Also, by this time, using guitar loops done on the fly and improvising came easily for me.It was second nature rather than being a gimick.Overall, I was very inspired when creating thsi album and exicited at the new sounds of the drums and of the guitar and bass emulations on guitar.I highly recommend this album if you are not familiar with my music. This album is intended to be listened to as a full album rather than trying to find a "hit song" and discarding the rest. This is because this album has a theme that each song augments and compliments. Enjoy!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars new doesnt mean good, way to complex to get a great sound, November 14, 2009
well, I blew $250 on this receiver as an open box deal. well, its going back tommorow. however, it was a great lesson. It was going to replace an older 5.1 pioneer, but as it turns out. this one has less watts per ch than the old one.Dont get me worng its a nice receiver, incredibly difficult to setup though in comparison.I mean horribly complex though I did own a $900 onkyo which was 11.1 which was even more difficult to setup than this). Even after setting the speaker settings via the online menu and having the calibrated mic and then bypassing it and doing it manually I was getting more out of the left than right ch. Also, what they dont tell you is this: no matter what, there is a built in crossover and its default at 100k and the lowest is 50khz you cant bypass it. so that means that if you have full range large speakers for the front left and right ,they get very little bass and it all gets routed to the sub. thats fine for sub and little cube deals but not for 6ft towers with 12"woofers and three drivers. So unless I was going direct bypassing all the surround stuff it soundeed quite lame compared to my old 5.1.And this is where I heard what it really sounds like and its crap. So after about an hour of different setups and trying things, I still never got as full a sound from my old receiver which was nothing really special, but maybe I took it for granted after trying this receiver.Basicly, this receiver can get the same quality of sound as my old one but it would take hours of setup and perfect alignment of the surround sound speakers and a hell of powerful sub. Perhaps I am old fashioned ,but to get a good sound should not be this hard.I mean you hook up pmy old one and immedieately you get a great sound and then you can tweak it. but with this thing, you start out with no sound until you setup the inputs via the on screen display 9provided yo have component plugged in and not hdmi). Then you have to set up the hdmi. but even then you get a crap sound and it really does take lots of tweaking to beging to get a basic decent sound. I am not tryng to scare anyone away but geez I just couldnt beleive what they are asking as far as setup goes. Now I did notice some really great things about this receiver: 1)if you have little tiny speakers and a sub then this would be a good match 2)it does have lots of power but that is mostly hidden by all the setup which limits the power it seems 3)hdmi causes more problems a than it solves and even with audio its a fad ,the analog outputs into my old recevier sound the same if not better 4)you can really tweak this thing for hours on end. Everything is hidden in menus, even the lowly oudness has nop button and it has to be gotten from a menu.lame.5) I was stunned by the surround sound possibilities and it really was like working with a dedicated surround processor with tons of modes!! if one could master the setup it could be great movies only.I found the surround overbearing for audio.

Anyway, overall, this is a prefect amp for someone who has a thx cinema setup in their home who does not mind tweaking for hours or someone who has tiny speakers and huge sub and doesnt listen to the front speakers for music.I feel sory for the average consumer who is not a dedicated audiophile who buys this unit as it is terribly complicated to hook up and to get it to sound good would be a feat to be proud of haha.Working with the unit trying to set it up felt like i was in a diagnostic mode only technicians normally have accesss too. kind of like the old tv's where you could never get a good picture becasue of all the diffferent settings and had to be accessed via the "diagnostic" mode.

So it goees back tommorow and instead I am getting 2 more of these old receviers I have as they sound great with little thought and sounded better than this unit no joke and the old ones have more watts, no hdmi at all, no onscreen menus and has buttons for almost all functions and are about 1/4th the price and still do 5.1 but without a bunch of bells and wistles and no need to setup the amount of delay between speakers and stuff yuk!!!. Also, I dont give a rats butt about the ipod and usb and most of the other features if the sound quality just isnt there or in this case its there but how do you find it.

I just wonder if people wont returns receivers like this becasue of the complexity/hassle of the setup opting for simpler receivers of old? Anyway I will sleep well now knowing that my recevier search is at an end.stear clear if you just want to hook it up and have it sound amazing and even after an evening of tweaking I approached the sound i was getting with the old one but it was timid in comparison becasue of the bass crossover

Enemy combatants: America's New Food Source
DVD ~ Denis taaffe
Price: $19.98

5.0 out of 5 stars this is movie making at its finest, September 2, 2009
As the filmmaker,I must say that I am very pleased with this title which is my second film. After creating the documentary President Carter,Killer Rabbits and UFO's,I wanted to branch out into the suspence thriller genre featuring a conspiracy theory. While some of the footage is lacking in terms of visual quality, it makes up for it in its wit and charm. Originally, this film was divided into 4 parts.they have been combined for this dvd release. It is a fictional suspence thriller and yet at the same time resembles actual events in politics surrounding 9/11, president Bush and enemy combatants at the time. So, it must be watched more than one time to catch on. Also, resembling true news events is the tained feed from china. At the time ,China had imported many tainted items and foods into the USA.This film is more witty than funny. However the bronx cheers make up for any lack of humour in part two and three.Beware:The characters (especially steve and his wife) grow on you after a few viewings and you will find yourself quoting lines from the film.highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars instant cult classic, September 2, 2009
well, as the creator of this fine documentary film, I must be humble, though it is quite difficult to be so. Particular highlights in the film that make it worthwhile are footage of Ron Kovich trying to get in to the Rolling stone party exclaiming he has been invited by President jimmy carter and additional insight from jeff carter. Also, the "real" ufo footage is quite something. Als, jimmy's alien abduction which leaves him with a suspicious scar is quite a treat. The real rabbit attack photo makes this documentary one of the finest DVD's to come along in a great while or at least in the last couple of minutes. Look for the director's cut in the near future though you wont find one.In any case, I highly recommend this ,it makes a great stocking stuffer and will be sure to collect dust in your dvd collection after a viewing or so!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect balance for home studio, May 6, 2009
I just got this mixer and the sound quality is amazing!!! Also, it is just perfect for a home studio, I will never need more than ten mic preamps and add o that the 4 subgroups and direct outs, jut perfect, I am glad i didnt spend more on the 1604 for ch's I wont use. I recommend this to anyone who has a decent home studio with a digital daw. No hiss and mic preamp are fantastic. Just a nice solid mixer!!!!

update!!! ok, i have now had this mixer for quite a while and its still going strong and sounds great. For a home studio, this is what you need. its clean and just a great sound. I had a 32ch/8 bus mackie with separate power supply vintage yadada,it was ok, but touch a knob and it crackled and the pre's were no better than the vlz-3 .remember mic pre's are not supposed to color the sound just give plenty of gain cleanly and it does. i feel sorry for these saps paying a huge amount for vintage crappy boards because it looks big hahaha. what a joke. this little 1642-vlz3 is all you need!!! no joke

I love the old Judas Priest but am also pleased to hear that this new album is a serious effort to try to break new ground. These guy have lot of albums and it would be easy to just spit out some "formula" trracks that worked for them before, but here they are really breaking new ground and for an "old" band, that says alot. It's still Judas Priest and it great to hear that they still have great ideas and arent afraid to try them out and still have their signature sound as well.
